...a sun-dappled walk on a relaxing morning, a whisper of the breeze, rhythmic sounds of the sea, a lazy afternoon, drifting with the current...

There is an old adage: the space between the bars is what holds the tiger in the cage. I grew up in a town that was bounded on east and west by two sets of railroad tracks, so all of our lives were lived between [and only tangentially connected to] the busy ways that led away from home.

When I got bitten by the “guitar bug” it was specifically to play fingerstyle guitar. It was 1973 and my mentors were on the radio. There was no one in my small town who taught guitar, let alone the style of playing with one's fingers. My friend, Keith Scoby, gave me his copy of Mateo Carcassi's classic Classical Guitar Method which guided my independent study. Mason Williams was playing his composition “Classical Gas” on radio and TV, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jim Croce, John Denver, George Benson, Earl Klugh and Dan Fogelberg were the artists whose radio cuts and recordings helped me to imagine and come to inhabit the world of my longing.

I continue to be moved by the tasteful arrangements of Dan Delancey and Jim Deeming and Mimi Fox and delight in the explorations of Jerry Palmer and the late Pete Huttlinger who each compose, arrange and perform in their own rich styles and to whom I owe a debt of gratitude.

I also thank my formal music teachers through the years: Marlyn Williamson (piano), Larry McCormack (school band, who let me explore jazz guitar with our Stage Band), Erik Christiansen and Richard Shoup (Men's Glee Club) and Dave Wheeler (arranging lessons and ear training.) Russ Hopkins helped me to move beyond my fears in the recording studio to discover the artist I longed to be by honing and sharpening my ears.

While the art may be conceived, shaped and polished in solitude, no one can accomplish the release of those compositions alone. I am grateful for these listeners and first responders: Ron Drury, Dusty Thorburn, Zach Eulberg, Katherine Genge, Jim Pierce, Kerry Patrick Clark, Jim Frye and George Francis. My gratitude is deep for my first and most loyal patron: my spouse, Connie Winter-Eulberg, and finally to the Author of all melody.

"Christ Is Our Peace" is a tasty musical fiesta-setting of the communion liturgy by Steve Eulberg.

Eulberg was the Director of Music at the Lutheran Campus Ministry at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. (USA) There he directed a variety of musical ensembles whose talents grace this recording.

"When creating music for worship, I always aim for it to be accessible and energizing, so that the participants can go away singing it throughout the week. The genius of liturgical worship is that people who could not read or write were able to learn the scriptures by what they sang in worship," Eulberg notes.

This recording features blues, a jazz waltz, an uptown fiesta, acoustic phat, islands, mon!, grunge energy and gentle, confident hope.

Eulberg is joined by musicians from the campus ministry and the community: Nat Lichte (bass), Siri Lichte (flute), Katie Stieber (drums), Jonathan Marston, Paul Gerberding & Steve Finestead (percussion choir), Gretchen Arneson & Jeff Reiker (trumpets) and the vocal talents of Connie and Kaitlin Winter-Eulberg, Paul Gerberding, Jonathan Marston and Roxanne Storlie.

A bonus track "Hometown Boy" is a hard-hitting re-telling of Jesus' first sermon in his hometown synagogue and features the talents of Russ Hopkins, who also served as the engineer for the project.

Eulberg is a championship caliber instrumentalist (he has won 2nd and 3rd place in the National Mountain Dulcimer Contest (1998 & 2001) and was a finalist in the National Hammered Dulcimer Contest (1999) in Winfield, Kansas.

He is also noted for his skillful production of acoustic music in northern Colorado, USA and his creative and energizing settings for worship and devotion such as "Happy Are They," "Holy Mountain" and the "Dulcimer-Friendly Worship" series.

Grooving beats, electronic keyboards and spiritual words in a medley of styles for the whole family; Psalms like you've always wanted to hear them.

"Happy Are They: Psalms to Sing and Sway By" by Steve Eulberg is a collection of 37 new musical and rhythmical settings of the biblical Psalms. They are a samples of those found in Eulberg's book by the same name, published on the Owl Mountain Music label.

The selections in this recording span the breadth of human emotion from ecstasy to sorrow, despair to unbridled hope and dedication. Musically, the span is nearly as broad for the instrumentation ranges from simple piano/guitar with a vocal, to full-throated 4 part harmonies, to "Psalm-Rap" chants supported by multi-continental percussion. Mountain and Hammered Dulcimers are joined by the Australian didjeridoo.

The Psalms have long held a special role for worship and devotion for adherents to Jewish and Christian beliefs. "When I studied Hebrew, their original language, in seminary, my Indian professor helped us to experience them by chanting and dancing to them," Eulberg recalls. "When I was working in an innercity setting I began to set these Psalms to rhythmical "Rap" settings to help the children in our Summer Youth Programs to learn them. And they did! After only one or two repetitions, they were rapping, chanting and singing these psalms all on their own!"

Eulberg is a championship caliber instrumentalist (he has won 2nd and 3rd place in the National Mountain Dulcimer Contest (1998 & 2001) and was a finalist in the National Hammered Dulcimer Contest (1999) in Winfield, Kansas.

A brisk walk under a bright moon in crisp winter air, these minor mode tunes of winter will warm your soul; beautiful traditional folk wonders.

'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime is Steve Eulberg's 2nd all-instrumental release on the Owl Mountain Music label. This collection of minor mode tunes originates from multicultural Christmas traditions, but is fitting for all phases of the winter moon.

Featuring mountain and hammered dulcimer ensembles (all played by Eulberg) this recording spans genres from jazz waltz, shape-note tunes, English, French and German dances, to African-American spirituals and blues.

"I have always loved these minor mode tunes and they are especially suited to dulcimers. May they breathe peace and hope into your soul," Eulberg comments. "I have dreamed of this project for years and have even grown weary of it as I labored over its details. But then I popped it into my portable CD player and listened while I took a midnight stroll under a bright winter moon-and fell in love with it again!"

Eulberg is a championship caliber instrumentalist (he has won 2nd and 3rd place in the National Mountain Dulcimer Contest (1998 & 2001, 2002) and was a finalist in the National Hammered Dulcimer Contest (1999) in Winfield, Kansas.

His dulcimer-playing has been featuring on two national compilations "Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer, Vol 2" (compiled by Susan Trump) and "Great Players of the Mountain Dulcimer" (compiled by Michael Shull).

Enthusiastic listeners are saying, "Excellent!", "Your best recording ever!" "I love it--and listen to it while I study."

"'Twas in the Moon" is the 3rd in Eulberg's "Dulcimer-Friendly Worship" series for which an accompanying book is available from Owl Mountain Music.

NEWS: The track, A La Nanita Nana, was played on United Airlines' Inflight Audio in November-December fo 2003.

A boot-kicking hoe-down with relaxing, breath-catching interludes, followed by jig steps and waltzes--all on mountain and hammered dulcimers.

Inspired by a Jean Ritchie poem of the same title, I Celebrate Life! is the title track of a collection of original songs and tunes written for Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer by award-winning singer-songwriter and musician, Steve Eulberg.

In his hands, the dulcimers reveal their many different characters: from old-time hoe-down, to sweet lyrical poetry, to bent-note blues and mystical eastern drones. Landscapes and portraits are painted with colorful hues as the listener is transported from the shores of Lake Michigan to the snowy springtime Rocky Mountains, from the gently falling first flakes of winter to the Ozarks of Missouri, from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to the brewing summer storms of Colorado.

But more than a travelogue, these tunes are also sonic journal of the artist's interior and exterior journeys.

Eulberg, a 4-time winner and 3-time finalist in the National Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Championships, has gathered into one collection the tunes he's been composing for these instruments since he began playing them 25 and 21 years ago. This collection is his book is also entitled, I Celebrate Life!

This recording is a sampling of 22 previously unrecorded tunes. As one reviewer has commented, "This is a Double Album of Original Dulcimer tunes...the best yet!"

I Celebrate Life! follows Eulberg's 2003 release, 'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime which was featured on United Airlines Inflight Audio during the holiday season of that year, and his 2001 release, Soaring, whose title track is featured in the soundtrack of the PBS television show Roadtrip Nation (episode 10) which is airing this summer.

Champion fiddler, Vi Wickam, is an inspired performer who brings his full energy to every performance. A 4th generation Colorado musician, he draws on a breadth of styles while finding creative melodic and harmonic twists and turns that weave a shimmering braid of music.

Champion dulcimer-player, Steve Eulberg, stands within the tradition of handmade, acoustic, home-grown music, giving life to old songs and tunes “Like Jimmy Buffet in Appalachia” and “crafting songs and tunes into a James Taylor house”.

Together as Fiddle Whamdiddle their cross-pollination produces the foot-stomping, heart-pumping music that snags audiences on city streets, living rooms and festival stages across the country. Not My Monkey is their 2nd full album release, joining Old School Old-Time (2012).

“These tunes sparkle like sequins, swing like a trapeze, prance like a show horse and strut like a ring-master...definitely my monkeys—and my kind of circus.” Ilace Mears, 2016 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion

“...feels like hanging out at a fine Old Time Jam. I found myself wanting to play along and join in the fun.”--Mark Gilston, 2016 National Mountain Dulcimer Champion

“...[they] clearly demonstrate the well-mastered art of the support musician while each shines on intricate leads.” --Linda Thomas
