...a sun-dappled walk on a relaxing morning, a whisper of the breeze, rhythmic sounds of the sea, a lazy afternoon, drifting with the current...
NOTES
There is an old adage: the space between the bars is what holds the tiger in the cage. I grew up in a town that was bounded on east and west by two sets of railroad tracks, so all of our lives were lived between [and only tangentially connected to] the busy ways that led away from home.

When I got bitten by the “guitar bug” it was specifically to play fingerstyle guitar. It was 1973 …

    Daddy Won't You Carry Me?

    ©2016 Steve Eulberg

    The nightly stand-off has begun
The cuckoo clock ticks on and on His little mouth begins to yawn.

It’s time to go he knows
but his daddy wants hi big boy to grow and walk on his two feet
like a little man, even though he can:

    Daddy won’t you carry me?
up the stairs to my bed
Let me lay my head upon
    your strong shoulder
Daddy hold me close to your heart Let me hear it beat
and know the pulse of your love…

    Daddy won’t you carry me?

    Daddy won’t you carry me?

    Daddy won’t you carry me?

    upstairs to my dreams…

As eldest he longs to be grown
Be a help, not a burden, at home
Baby sisters can’t yet do things all alone

That's a fact and he knows it to be true

but here's another one and this one is not new

Big boys need some reassurance, too.

Turns out that is something Daddies can do.

The nurse holds a receiver to his ear

He's 5,000 miles away from here

The years have robbed him of his tongue

In one voice I speak the dialogue of one

    His time has come....

    Daddy won't you carry him?

Up the stairs to his bed

Let him lay his head upon your strong shoulder

Daddy hold him close to your heart

Let him hear it beat and know the pulse of your love

    Daddy won't you carry me...
